Russian visa support
Before travelling to Russia, you are required to get an entry visa from a Russian Embassy.

To do this, you must provide the Embassy with an invitation (otherwise known as visa support, or a tourist voucher and confirmation) issued by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs or by an accredited visa agency.

Common questions

These are some of the questions we are asked regularly. See the common questions section for more.

Q: I will not be staying in a hotel – can you provide me with an invitation?

A: Yes. An invitation from GetRussian allows you to stay wherever you choose – with friends; at a rented apartment; in a hotel/hostel etc. You do not need a hotel booking if using an invitation from GetRussian.

Q: I read that I need the original copy of the invitation. Is this true?

A: No. Although officially they require the original, Russian Embassies are happy to accept a copy rather than the original. In the UK, for example, the Embassy always accepts copies of the invitation, and does not demand the original.

Q: I have been told I need two documents: a voucher and a confirmation. Do you provide this?

A: Yes. The document normally called the invitation is actually two documents together – the voucher and the confirmation. You do not need anything more than our invitation in order to apply for a visa.

Q: How long does it take to get a Russian visa?

A: Obtaining your Russian visa invitation through GetRussian takes no more than a few seconds. Applying for the Russian visa itself can take from one hour to 15 working days, depending on the fee paid to the Embassy. Some Embassies are more efficient than others.

Q: I want to travel outside Moscow and St. Petersburg – would my invitation be valid?

A: You can travel wherever you like in Russia with a visa invitation from GetRussian (with the exception of areas of conflict).
